The amount of time and work is almost identical to a nutrient paste dispensor. The chef just stands there and hammers out a few meals in a matter of seconds, haulers handle refilling ingredients and moving the meals to the proper stockpile. You put higher priority 1x1 stockpiles next to a chef similar to the hoppers on the paste dispensor, you tell the chef to only grab ingredients from a radius of 3 and to drop meals on the ground when finished, behind them is an empty stockpile that counts the meals made while they are on the floor. The difference between a nutrient paste dispensor and a chef making meals is neglible, as in both cases haulers are feeding ingredients, and the actual meal prep time is basically nothing. If you learn how to setup a cooking area then cooking for a colony of 5 takes no noticeable time whatsoever. Being a cook for a 5-man colony is a major time investment you need to consider.
